Kunst und Wohnung, R. Lorenz was founded in 1919 at Josefstädter Straße 21 in Vienna's 8th district. Managing directors and partners were Rudolf Lorenz, Samuel Goldfarb and Oskar Reichel. The main business of the company, also known as KUWO or Lorenz Möbel, with Hugo Gorge, architect and member of the Wiener Werkstätte, as artistic director, consisted of the production, purchase and sale of furniture along with applied art and interior furnishing objects of all kinds. The company moved in 1934 to Seilergasse 7 in the 1st district, with a branch outlet in adjacent Plankengasse. Oskar Reichel's son Raimund (1904–1997) became managing director at the end of 1937, and the company's name was changed to Kunst und Wohnung, Lorenz & Reichel Gesm.b.H. A year later, the business was closed by the Nazi authorities and subsequently liquidated. The name was deleted from the register of companies in May 1942.
